During the days of the 24th October until the 28th October we will be holding Halloween themed celebrations. We would love as many children as possible to get involved with Halloween with us by dressing up in costume throughout the week, and on party day – whether it be a Halloween themed costume, or simply their favourite character, superhero, princess, etc.
During this week we will be: Monday- Pumpkin carving Tuesday- Spooky Cake Baking Wednesday- Trick or Treat Hunt in The Garden Thursday- Fruity Cauldron Potion & Wand Making Friday- Halloween Disco & Party Day On Thursday 8th September 2022 we sadly lost our great Queen, Elizabeth II aged 96. As Britain's reigning monarch for seven decades, the Queen was known for her words of wisdom and humanity through both the best and hardest of times. An inspirational quote of the Queen which reads "And when peace comes, remember it will be for us, the children of today, to make the world of tomorrow a better and happier place" will be forever in our hearts and memories. As a nursery and a nation we mourn the death of such an inspirational lady. Our thoughts and prayers are with the King and the Royal family at this time.  This month the activity sent home to all our children and families is 'Hand Washing'. This is an ideal activity to do at home with your little ones to help with their physical development and independence skills. We have a fab story book called Handy the Octopus Saves the Day, a cutting and sticking activity work sheet a handy guide to when to wash you hands. [EYFS: Physical Development - “Be increasingly independent in meeting their own care needs, e.g. brushing teeth, using the toilet, washing and drying their hands thoroughly". ] We cant wait to see your hand washing photos and your completed worksheets. This is an ideal activity to do at home with your little ones to help with their understanding of the world; seeing how some food grows, and for their personal, social and emotional skills, talking to them about the colour, letting them taste and feel the cress etc. [EYFS: Understanding the World- “plant seeds and care for growing plants” “understanding the key features of the life cycle of a plant” “begin to understand the need to respect and care for the natural environment and all living things” ] We have already had so many wonderful photos back of children enjoying planting ready to watch them grow! Traditionally, Chinese New Year would begin on the last day of the month in the Chinese calendar, Chinese New Year’s Eve, and would end on the fifteenth day of the first month - the Lantern Festival.
This makes it the longest festival in the Chinese calendar. The date changes from year to year because it follows an ancient farmer calendar, which is based on phases of the moon. Chinese New Year 2022, the Year of the Tiger, will be celebrated on 1st February 2022. The Tiger is considered to be brave, cruel and forceful. It is the symbol of power in Chinese culture. Alternative names also include the Lunar New Year, as the Chinese calendar is lunisolar, and the Spring Festival, which is the literal translation of the modern Chinese name. How long does Chinese New Year last?Chinese New Year usually lasts for 15 days. The Lantern Festival is held on the 15th day and signals the end of the New Year celebration period. How is Chinese New Year celebrated?In preparation for Chinese New Year, Chinese people spring-clean their houses and gardens to sweep away any bad luck. Houses are decorated with paper scrolls and lanterns, and any unfinished business is settled so that there's a fresh start to the new year. Children receive red envelopes that are filled with money and sweets from elders. Parades and performances fill the streets, and people enjoy fireworks and eat lots of food to mark the occasion. [Source: Twinkl] We know the original 'freedom day' got pushed back from 21st June 2021, but we are already so close to the new 'freedom day' with 19th July just around the corner.
We wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of our parents and carers for supporting us throughout this pandemic and for following the Government guidelines and our extra procedures diligently. We are still all working so hard to keep each other safe, so want to remind everyone to keep doing what you're doing to protect each other. We are nearly there! We will of course update you as soon as we can following the next Government announcement, and will let you know if anything is due to change at nursery toward the end of July. As you may have seen in the press, Walsall have a small number of cases of the COVID-19 variant first discovered in South Africa have been identified in localities across England, including an area in Walsall. This variant cannot be traced back to international travel, which suggests it may be the result of transmission within the community.
Walsall Council is working closely with Public Health England and the national NHS Track and Trace team to curb any potential spread of this variant and we will be undertaking more testing in certain areas within the Borough. Our priority remains very much to keep our communities, and including our most vulnerable residents and staff, safe. The advice we have received nationally tells us that there is currently no evidence that this variant causes more severe illness, or that the regulated vaccines would not protect against it, but research indicates that it does transmit from person to person more easily. The more cases of the variant we find, the better chance we have at suppressing it, so residents over the age of 18 living, or working in some parts of the WS2 postcode, specifically Birchills Leamore, Blakenall or Bloxwich East areas, will be strongly encouraged to take a COVID-19 test this week, even if they are not showing symptoms. Testing Units will be deployed offering testing and Walsall Council will also be encouraging people in the area to get tested by providing home test kits. So what does this mean for you?

Here we are - Christmas Eve!!!!!! The big man is on his way, and we are ready to see all those little smiley faces on Christmas morning, taking in all the magic, joy and splendour of it all!!!
We just want to take this opportunity to say a massive, MASSIVE thank you to all our parents this year. There is no way we would have made it to Christmas Eve without your constant support. You have helped us at every stage throughout this crazy pandemic and listened to everything we've had to say, and importantly have kept everyone safe by following the endless rules and guidelines! We want to say as well - as parents, you have all made it through one of the most incredibly hard years! Many of us all of a sudden had our little ones home with us 24/7 back in April while we tried to work..... but we did it!!!!! We should be SO proud!! Our children are happy, loved, supported and well - and that's all we can wish for at Christmas. We hope you all manage to have some well deserved rest over this festive period. We also want to join to acknowledge the hard work of our wonderful staff. We are sure you will agree, they have gone above and beyond this year to make sure all the little ones have known little or no difference to their lives. Our aim has been their happiness and wellbeing, and keeping you and your families safe. From the strange early days of the pandemic until now, it's been and still can be a nervous time for parents - we hope we have made you feel calm and happy, and provided some of that much needed normality. Here's to 2021. Although we know it will still be much of the same to begin with - we are going in to the year stronger and more resilient. May the New Year soon bring us back in the arms of our loved ones.
